Hogs Close Mixed Mostly Higher

Lean hog futures ended the session with 5 to 32 cent gains, save for a 60 cent loss in December and a 2 cent give back in April contracts. The CME Lean Hog Index for Nov 27 was down another 34 cents to $66.81. Pork Cutout futures were also mixed at the close, ending within 55 cents of UNCH. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was down $3.01 in the PM report at $77.08 cwt. Hams were down the most with a $8.54 drop to $73.83. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for Wednesday PM was $56.67, unchanged on the day. USDA’s FI hog slaughter for Tuesday was estimated at 493k head. The week’s slaughter is 990k head, down 4k from last week and 2,000 head below last year.
